Towards Dalmanutha

The text which we present in these pages is the introduction which Cardinal Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga, Archbishop of Tegucigalpa, wrote for the Spanish edition (1999) of Monsignor Marini’s volume Dalmanutha. The Glory of God, recently published in Italian by Ares, Milan 2003 (320 pages, ' 20). The book gathers the spiritual exercises which monsignor Marini, the 67 years old Undersecretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship, held some years ago for a group of priests and Mexican seminarians. The title is singular. Dalmanutha is a locality on lake Tiberias mentioned only once in the Gospels («[Jesus ] got into the boat with his disciples, and went to the district of Dalmanutha», Mark 8,10), of which practically nothing is known, but which Marini suggestively identifies with the goal which each one of us is called on to reach already in this life, that is, the glory of God.
