He wanted to see Jesus. Zaccheus climbed a sycamore and his effort was rewarded, for the Lord went to his home. That gesture of friendship changed life for him.
The author of these original and penetrating meditations invites us to the awe of faith at the unique figure of Jesus of Nazareth, the Lord.
In these pages one feels the throb of a man’s passion for the faith of the Church: the faith in Christ, dead and risen again, who lives in the Eucharist and who radiates the glory of the Trinity.
The author has the merit of approaching the mystery of Jesus from an original point of view, practically never met before, thanks to a mysticism of friendship, that flows back into the intelligence of faith.
His attention to the human sensibility of the Lord and his network of relations enables him to enrich the experience of the faith thanks to reflections that come from the heart and invite to adoration.
Everybody will certainly appreciate, as I do, the Trinitarian glory that bathes these simple meditations in light.
They move the reader because they make him touch with his finger – like Thomas - the wound in the heart that discloses the fascinating mystery of the savior, real God and real man.
Those who, like Zaccheus, desire to see Jesus from close up will find an exposition here that is both simple and theologically rigorous.
The balance between the divine and human dimensions of the mystery of the Incarnation is well maintained, in the light of Easter, without making concessions to fashionable ideologies or cheap sentimentality.
It is enough to read the passage on the Gospel of Mary to perceive the spirit of John, that inspires these pages, to thank the author for his testimony like him who leaned his head on the breast of the Lord.
