«Ecclesia Dei»
Monsignor Mario Marini appointed adjoint secretary
by Gianni Cardinale
On 7 July, along with the publication of the motu proprio Summorum pontificum, the appointment was
announced of Monsignor Mario Martini as adjoint Secretary of the «Ecclesia Dei» Pontifical
Commission, of which he was till now “permanent expert”. In
this new post he will assist the Cardinal President Darío
Castrillón Hoyos and the Secretary, Monsignor Camille Perl.
Monsignor Marini, originally from the archdiocese of Ravenna-Cervia, was
until last March undersecretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and
the Discipline of the Sacraments. He had previously worked in the
Secretariat of State and was office head of the Congregation for the
Clergy. He was also recently appointed canon of the chapter of the Vatican
Papal Basilica. His nomination strengthens the staff of «Ecclesia Dei» whose role is
relaunched by the motu proprio that liberalizes the use of the 1962 missal.
