Charles Morerod: a thesis on the ecclesiology of Cardinal Journet

The Dominican Charles Morerod was born in Riaz, in the Swiss canton of Fribourg, on 28 October 1961. He became a Dominican novice in 1983, made his solemn profession in February 1987 and was ordained priest on 30 April 1988 in Geneva. He completed his theological studies at the University of Fribourg from 1981 to 1987, obtaining the licentiate with a thesis on the ecclesiology of Cardinal Journet.
After serving for some years in the post of chaplain at the University of Fribourg, Father Charles received his doctorate in theology at the University with a thesis on the confrontation between Martin Luther and Cardinal Caetano at Augusta in 1518. He began his academic career in Fribourg in 1994, and then became professor at the St Thomas Aquinas Pontifical University, the Angelicum, in Rome, where he was elected rector in September 2009. He currently teaches philosophy both at the Angelicum and the Pontifical Lateran University. In April 2009 he was also appointed Secretary General of the International Theological Commission. He holds various positions in official commissions for dialogue on behalf of the Holy See. In addition to the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, since 2002 he has been a member of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC) and since October 2009 has participated as a Vatican appointed member also in the doctrinal discussions between the Holy See and the Saint Pius X Fraternity.
Father Morerod is also editor of the French edition of the journal Nova et Vetera, a member of the Fondation du Cardinal Journet and of the Scientific Committee of the Paul VI Institute of Brescia.
